Essential Oil
First things first: Let’s learn more about essential oils. Essential oils are called as essential oils because it contains the plant’s “living essence”. Essential oils are extracted from plants like flowers, wood, herb, fruit, resin, etc. Do not that not all flowers and fruits contain essential oil though. For example, there’s no such thing as mango or strawberry essential oil, only fragrances. Essential oils are stored in dark glass bottles because they are photosensitive. They are so potent that they can even melt plastic. Therefore, normally only a few drops of essential oil is needed. If you think that essential oils are expensive, here’s the reason why. Plants only contain 0.1 – 10% essential oil. Hence, 5 tonnes of roses are needed to obtain 1 kg of essential oil! It’s worth to pay a little more for genuine and better quality essential oil.Mt. Mt. Sapola’s Home Scents have captured the hearts of many thanks to its long-lasting, flame-free and low maintenance appeal. Among the 13 scents in the range, the most popular ones are Lemongrass and Lavender scents. The good news is, you don’t have to stick to just one scent. During the aromatherapy workshop that took place at Ciao Ristorante with Mt. Sapola, I learned how to customize my own scent and I’m going to share with you now. First, you need to decide how and for what you’re going to use it. Is it for the calming scent or to relieve certain ailment? If it is used to create a calming environment, try to combine Vanilla and Sandalwood together. Certain blends have specific properties that can relieve ailments. For example, Eucalyptus and Rosemary can relief headaches and increase alertness. There’s no right or wrong in creating your own concoction as long as you’re comfortable with the scent. We were given 8 different essential oils to choose from: Top note – Bergamot, Lemongrass, Eucalyptus, Petitgrain (the main scent of the customized essential oil) Middle note – Geranium, Lavender (acts as oil binder to harmonize top and base note) Base note – Frankincense, Patchouli (to hold your scent longer) Before you start working on your formula, you need to first select your base note, followed by middle note and lastly, top note. To be safe, keep it to a maximum of 6 scents. Then, determine the number of drops you’d like to put for each essential oil that you’ve chosen and do the math.To be honest, I’m not an adventurous kind of person and prefer to be on a safe side. Hence, I only mixed 3 essential oils together. Alright, let me share you my formula: Base note – Patchouli (4 drops) Middle note – Geranium (6 drops) Top note – Bergamot (6 drops) The reason I choose these scents is because I’m under a lot of stress lately and the combination of these scents can help to uplift my mood and relieve stress. Plus, Bergamot has a citrusy scent that I really love. Inhaling my favorite scent can definitely make me happy! Voila! The home scent for my private sanctuary was born and it’s unique because I created it. Mt. Sapola has an array of aromatherapy accessories to help spread the scents such as electric burners, candle holders, scenting clay, diffusers and nebulisers that adds style to any area in the house.
