Posh, expensive meals are not exactly our thing. Instead, what we look for is food quality. Hence, this is where I brought Clumsy Boy and my parents to celebrate Mother’s Day – the newly opened Curry House CoCo Ichibanya @ 1 Utama Shopping Centre.

Background story CoCo Ichibanya is the largest Japanese curry restaurant chain in Japan (some say the world!) and now it’s finally in Malaysia. Taglined “The tastiness you can choose”, you can customize your rice portion, spiciness level, additional curry sauce serving and toppings to suit your personal preference.

We were greeted by the friendly staff as soon as we stepped in. The contemporary interior looks clean and neat but somehow I think that the music that they’re playing was a bit loud. CoCo Ichibanya Japanese curry’s spiciness level: Mild (for kids) Original Flavour (Standard) Level 1 – Medium Hot Level 2 – Hot Level 3 – Extra Hot Level 4 – Super Hot Level 5 – Crazy Hot

As this was my first time tasting this and since my tolerance level to spicy food is also quite weak, I opted for standard spiciness when I ordered my Pork Cutlet Omelette Curry Rice. I just can’t resist the temptation of trying their omelette because it looks so delectable from the menu photo! Turns out, it didn’t disappoint. The pork cutlet is fried to perfection that made it crispy on the outside and tender on the inside while the omelette is soft and smooth… ohhhh~~~ Glad they’re generous on the curry sauce but original flavor seems to be milder than the mild Japanese curry cubes I cook my udon with so I guess I’ll attempt Level 1 next time.

Clumsy Boy had this Seafood Omelette Curry Rice that has prawns, scallops and squids. But since the price is same as mine and comparing the portion of meat, I think mine is more value for money. He had the Level 2 Japanese Curry and his advice is: If you cannot handle spicy food well, don’t attempt this.

Mum and dad had Pork Cutlet Curry Rice and Chicken Cutlet Curry Rice respectively. I forgot to try the chicken cutlet myself but both of them seem to enjoy their dishes.

For every RM 50 spent, you will receive a packet of Matcha Latte but you’re only able to get it after making payment. And I think it’s too bad that they don’t serve green tea in teabags. They only have bottled ones. All in all, I’ll still be coming back for their awesome Japanese curry rice and I really love their service. Their staffs are very friendly and professional.
