#LovingYou #5 – DIY Wedding Invitation Card

To print our wedding invitation card or to DIY wedding invitation card would require a lot thought and consideration. Both has their pros and cons. Of course, printing requires less effort and saves time. All you need to do is pick a design, fill in a form, approve the finalized copy before being sent for printing and wait. We also thought of designing our own wedding invitation card but unfortunately, our design skill sucks and if we were to hire a designer to do it, it might be expensive :X

DIY Wedding Invitation Card

In the end, we decided to DIY our own Wedding Invitation Card cos we want our guests to feel more special. But DIY also not easy. What design is most suitable? We DIY-ed a card that resembles a bride and a groom but it wasn’t as easy as we thought. Although we managed to make it, but the thought of having to make around 250 pieces of it wasn’t fun at all. It will just add in more stress for us. So in the end, we settled for an easier design and went out to source the materials needed.

DIY Wedding Invitation Card

Materials needed:

1. Blue cards
2. Pink cards
3. Hemp string
4. Heart shape craft punch
5. Washi tape / Washi masking tape x 2 designs
6. 双喜 stickers
7. Red envelopes

Step 1: To decide what we want to print onto the cards and adjust the position in Adobe Illustrator. Initially, we want to include the exact Chinese wordings that we normally see on printed invitation cards but I figured that it’s actually very hard to type them out. It’s not the usual characters we use everyday =.= Step 2: Measure and mark the cards’ width every 9.9 cm because we’re going to divide each piece of card to 3. To save time, we stacked a few pieces of cards together (in this case, only 3 pieces) so we can measure 1 piece less. We just need to mark the 1st and 3rd piece and join the markings. Of course, we can stack more pieces to save more time but it’s prone to inaccuracy and I want to avoid that.

 

Step 3: Just like how we used to do when we were kids, connect the dots to form a line.

 

Step 4: Cut the cards according to the lines drawn. Step 5: Put the pink and blue cards together and punch a hole with the heart shape craft puncher on the side.

 

Step 6: To make our card more 3D (it’s actually quite lame :p), we printed our names on the card that has different color from the background and taped it with Washi tape. The Washi tapes need to be measured against a standard sized one and cut out.

 

 

Step 7: Cut the hemp strings and tie the hearts together. It also symbolizes our hearts united as one.

 

Last but not least, we bought these 双喜 stickers and stuck them onto our red envelopes. It made a huge difference, really.We tried to hand deliver to every one of our friends so it was a hectic and busy month for me. I even brought them to every event that I went so I can personally hand out our wedding invitation card to my blogger friends.
