I was thrilled to be invited by Yvonne to sample the Chinese New Year menu at Cheng Ho Court, Mines Wellness Hotel 3 weeks back as this was my first time there. Before arriving at the restaurant, I was mesmerized by the lake view at the hotel lobby. It was so breathtaking!

The dish that kick start our food review session is none other than Salmon and Snow Pear Lou Sang (RM 98++). Sweet and juicy salmon coupled with crunchy snow pear just gave the traditional lou sang a twist of freshness. Other alternatives include Homemade Vegetarian Loh Sang, Abalone Loh Sang, Abalone and Salmon Loh Sang that ranges from RM 88++ to RM 238++.

Special Double Boiled Black Chicken Soup
Special Double Boiled Black Chicken Soup

I’ve always love chicken soup. Ever heard of chicken soup for the soul? I know it’s a book title, but somehow I think that it’s really nutritious and has comforting effect to my soul. To make the effect better in Special Double Boiled Black Chicken Soup, Cheng Ho Court has thrown in special ingredients like abalone, fish maw, scallop and wolfberries (goji)!

Dragon Otak Otak Chicken

Never ever have I thought that otak-otak and chicken can be combined together to make a dish. The creative chef at Cheng Ho Court has just made this Dragon Otak Otak Chicken by applying otak-otak paste on the tender boneless chicken. The skin is so crispy, I can’t help but to eat a few pieces more. According to the chef, the kitchen crew spent 2 hours just to stick the almond flakes into the meat!

Steamed Bamboo Fish with Soya Sauce
Steamed Bamboo Fish with Soya Sauce

As fish signifies 年年有余, meaning “Abundance through the year” to Chinese, Steamed Bamboo Fish with Soya Sauce is perfect to complete a CNY meal. Although the dish might sound simple, I was surprised at how good it tasted. The amount of soya sauce is just right, not too salty as Mine Wellness Hotel promotes health and thus, the same concept was implemented at Cheng Ho Court as well. The fish tastes sweet and fresh with smooth texture. Thinking of the taste right now makes me salivate!

Baked King Prawn with Garlic and Cheese

Baked King Prawn with Garlic and Cheese is so sinful but yet I couldn’t stop eating! The king prawns are really huge. Don’t believe me? Take a look at the next photo! The meat is so flavorful and due to the freshness, you can even taste the natural sweetness of prawn.

Another seafood dish was presented upon us but this time, with some greens! All I can say about Cheng Ho Braised Mixed Dried Seafood with Claypot Sadri is – it’s a pot of treasure! Expect to find black moss, scallops, sea cucumbers, dried oysters, fish maw, huge mushrooms and brocolli in a thick, yummy sauce!

Abalone Seafood Fried Rice with Pine Seed is one unique fried rice. Although I was already quite full, I couldn’t resist the texture of crunchy pine seed with fried rice. Not to mention, their’s abalone, prawn and mushroom goodness in it!

Last but not least, it’s dessert time! If you haven’t noticed what Fancy Duet is, it’s actually ‘nian gao’ presented in two different methods – one is deep fried and another is steamed with peanut coating. Yum! To end our food review session with a sweet note, we were served with Double Boiled Mix Fruit Sago and Almond Beancurd, a healthy and vibrant dessert I must say!
