It’s been a while since I’ve eaten in a hotel. More so, I’ve not eaten proper Chinese food outside for a long time besides grandma’s cooking. Imagine my joy when I was invited for a food review at Zuan Yuan Chinese Restaurant at One World Hotel! They recently revamped their menu to keep the excitement going and thus, almost 30% of the food in their menu are either new ones or with enhanced recipe! If you haven’t know, they mainly focuses on Teochew and Cantonese dishes.

Our feast began with three appetisers, the first one was Deep Fried Dried Scallop with Crispy Leaf Vegetable and Seaweed, a dish that gives a crunchy feel every bite you took. The second appetiser was Crispy Soft Shell Crab in Vinegar Honey Sauce. The blend of vinegar honey sauce is just right to create a balanced taste for the soft shell crabs, not too overwhelming. The highlight was Smoked Duck with Jelly Fish, a very sinful appetiser that has received a lot of positive feedbacks. Indulging in the aromatic smoked duck with the right proportion of meat and fat combined with special sauce is truly satisfying.

As many diners nowadays are trying to avoid having shark’s fin, Zuan Yuan cleverly introduces Braised Australian Scallop Soup with Dried Scallop and Snow Fungus in Egg White as an alternative. The taste of it is surprisingly no less than shark’s fin!

For seafood lovers, Stewed Tiger Prawn with Vermicelli and “Sha Cha” Sauce in Claypot should not be missed! The “Sha Cha” Sauce gave the tiger prawns a kick of spiciness. I especially like the vermicelli that has absorbed all the prawn essence, making it very flavorful! *slurp*

As for dessert, we had Crispy Red Bean Chinese Pancake with Banana and Double Boiled Pear with Osmanthus and Honey. Crispy Red Bean Chinese Pancake with Banana might looked like a typical dessert in a Chinese restaurant but surprisingly it’s not! Combining red bean and banana as the filling of this pancake makes it tastes a lot better than the typical ones. What I like most though, is the Double Boiled Pear with Osmanthus and Honey, it’s served chilled and every bite tasted so refreshing and cooling! The Osmanthus was stuffed inside the pear so you’ll have to dig it out to discover the gem inside. I finished everything on the plate!
