Recently, I got to try one of the hottest food delivery services in KL – Food Matters. Very often, I felt that healthy meal options outside are too little. So sometimes I told myself that I need to eat healthier but I’ll still end up with calorie-packed dishes like Char Kuey Teow and fast food.

Perfect timing as I hate starving myself, waiting for food to come. After all, the key to a healthy and fit body is to eat your meals on time everyday. Food Matters has over 40 dishes in their menu currently with 6 options daily. You don’t have to eat boring meals everyday! Out of the 6 options, there will be 1 vegetarian-friendly dish. Let’s look at what they offer on Mondays:
Mexican Bean Salad with Steak
Mexican Bean Salad with Steak is the most exciting and colorful dish in the list. This is a great choice for those who love to have sauce with their meal. It is packed with high antioxidant raw ingredients like onions, mango cubes and chilies. The lean grilled juicy steak is a good protein source for a balanced diet.
Moroccan Meatballs with Couscous
Their yummylicious meatballs were made with lean ground beef and are baked to perfection. To enhance the taste, it was topped with mint yogurt dip. The most unique thing about this dish is the use of a light couscous pilaf to substitute rice and noodle. Couscous is a good source of lean protein and rich in thiamin, niacin, riboflavin, Vitamin B6, and folate. It’s a very fresh combination and the crunchy nuts added more texture into the dish, giving me something to chew on. The tangy raisins in it acts as an appetite booster.
Curry Leaf Pesto Pasta
Curry Leaf Pesto Pasta’s appearance might look a bit dull in comparison to other dishes but don’t estimate the taste! The curry leaves gave the dish an attractive, appetizing fragrance and yet not too spicy. Do you know that curry leaves have cancer fighting properties and can prevent liver damage? I love the creaminess of this Asian inspired pasta. To make up a well-balanced meal, it is loaded with mushroom and skinless lean chicken meat.
Nasi Ulam
Nasi Ulam itself is a very exciting Kelantanese dish. At FoodMatters, they made it even more wholesome by using brown rice instead of white rice. It is tossed with a variety of fragrant Malay wild herbs and spices. The ensemble of ingredients made it taste very flavorful; just like a choir in my mouth. Thanks to the tangy tomatoes and lime juice, every mouthful appears very appetizing.
Vegetarian Quinoa Bibimbap
Quinoa is one of the most hyped ingredients in healthy diet thanks to its high amino acids content. Besides, it is also gluten-free and easier to digest. Thus, Vegetarian Quinoa Bibimbap is the perfect choice for vegetarians, people who prefer gluten-free diet and also people who have digestion problem. This Korean inspired dish was well prepared with an over easy egg topped with sesame seeds, purple cabbages, carrots and mushrooms. Not forgetting the most important ingredient, gochujang (chili pepper paste) is included in a tiny sealed container.
Hainanese Chicken Rice
Just like Nasi Ulam, healthy brown rice was also used for Hainanese Chicken Rice. The brown rice was cooked with chicken stock to give it the best taste. The taste of the chicken is very flavorful with the combination of garlic and ginger taste. Using breast meat, it is indeed a great source of protein with least amount of fat. I find it a tad dry but adding some sauce on it certainly helps.
