I’ve heard a lot from my friends that Mid Valley and The Gardens Mall has a new section now. So glad to finally check it out (really need to update myself a bit) and JINJJA Chicken is one of their latest addition!
JINJJA Chicken @ The Gardens Mall, Mid Valley City
Originated from Singapore, JINJJA Chicken is a Korean fried chicken joint that runs on fast food concept. In line with their vision to become ‘The Authentic Asian Fast Food Joint’, they are also going beyond just fried chicken. You can find a variety of familiar, unique Korean meal fixes (think Bibimbap, Kimchi Jiggae, Jjajangmyeon) at JINJJA Chicken. I’ve tried finding Jjajangmyeon few years ago but not many Korean restaurants in Malaysia have it since it is considered as Korean Chinese dish. In Korea, only restaurants that sell Chinese food have this item. So glad to see this in JINJJA Chicken’s menu! FYI, JINJJA Chicken is certified HALAL in Singapore and is applying for halal certification in Malaysia. P/S: Jinjja means “Really” in Korean The exterior of JINJJA Chicken is very eye-catching with pretty light bulbs and neon signage. This is also where the ordering counter is. Customers just need to look at the menu on the display or at the counter and place their orders. As for the interior, I love the bright colors they use that gives this place a positive vibe because this is also one of the reasons why I love listening to K-Pop: it is fun, catchy and it immediately lifts up your mood! On the wall, there are a few TVs with K-Pop Music Video on. This is one of the things I love when I go to Korean BBQ restaurants cos it keeps me entertained haha! Can’t say no to pretty boys :-p We got this device after placing our order and made payment. When order is ready, it will vibrate! *Bzzz bzzz* Ahhh!! Our order is ready in a jiffy. In less than 10 minutes, our first item is ready to be collected. Let’s head to the collection counter to pick it up. Get ready to go to the collection counter a few rounds as everything is freshly cooked. Aren’t you curious to see what we’ve ordered? I wanted to try quite a few food items from them so I decided to just go with their Big Bang set which can feed 4-5 pax. It also makes a very good party set as the packaging is already “tapau-friendly”! To cater for bigger groups, they also have Bigger Bang Set for 8-10 pax. What we got from Big Bang Set (priced at RM 79 per set):
16pcs signature JINJJA Wings
4 pcs JINJJA Drumsticks
1 Chicken Kimbap
6 pcs Fried Mandu
2 Regular Fries
4 Regular sodas
For the wings and drumstick, you get to choose between these 4 flavors: Soy Garlic, Yangnyeom, Monster sauce and Mixed. Look at the Soy Garlic Chicken Wing that we had! The 3 of us gobbled up around 4 per person because the taste is just so on point and perfectly fried til crispy! This one has more garlic flavor but less sweet compared to the usual ones we had. My most preferred fried chicken part is still the drumstick though. Can you see the deliciously tender and moist drumstick calling at ya? This is what I meant when I said I preferred drumstick. This is Yangnyeom flavor, a sweet and spicy sauce that will make you ask for more! Jinjja masisseoyo!!! If you noticed, Soy Garlic flavored ones were garnished with white sesame while Yangnyeom flavored one were garnished with black sesame. It definitely adds another layer of texture and enhance the oomph-ness level. Their most popular flavor is the fiery Monster sauce though, so if you’re someone who chases over extra spicy food, make sure you try it! The set also included Kimbap a.k.a. Korean Sushi Roll with chicken fillings inside. Do you know that Koreans love to eat this for lunch especially when they’re pressed for time? This is because they don’t need to scoop out the rice and still enjoy rice by just eating the Kimbap as a whole using their mouth. Aside from that, they also love to pack Kimbap as picnic food. Mandu is a type of Korean dumpling. If you’re familiar with Japanese dishes, you’ll definitely link this with gyoza. They’re technically the same except for the fillings. The fried mandu at JINJJA Chicken is filled with chicken meat and yummy kimchi! When fries meets Tteokbokki, here comes Tteokbokki Fries! The fries certainly didn’t disappoint. They are very crispy as they are all freshly deep fried. Don’t miss the Korean Rice Cake, Tteobokki too. The spicy Tteobokki sauce had me teared up but I’m blaming my low tolerance on spicy food T_T I was really looking forward to try their Jjajangmyeon. If you watch Running Man or Infinite Challenge, you will definitely know how much they love their Jjajangmyeon. Sometimes when I watch at night, the sound of them stirring the noodle and slurping it just made me feel hungry again! I noticed the noodle they use is a little thicker than the usual one. Nevertheless, it still tasted good and it gets better with every mouthful! I’ve cooked my own Jjajangmyeon before and quite surprised at the amount of sugar they use when I looked at the recipe. Safe to say that JINJJA chicken’s version is less sweet version. Last but not least, we ordered Kimchi Jiggae with Vermicelli since this is one of Korean’s must-have dish. Plus, I know Clumsy Boy will like this. I tried it too and honestly, it’s so suitable for the rainy season nowadays. What’s better than to have a bowl of hot soup to warm the stomach? The heart shaped one looks so interesting! It’s actually Jjajangmyeon on one side and Jjampong on the side, so you can try both flavors together. In order to replicate the authentic taste of Korean dishes, JINJJA Chicken not only sources their ingredients from Korea, they also got their recipe from Korea. They tried to avoid the excessive use of preservatives, additives and overly processed ingredients to ensure their customers are able to enjoy delicious, fast, affordable, and good food. Promotion: Students get to enjoy RM 5 off from Set Meals; you just need to flash your student card to redeem it. Ah, how I wish to be a student again! If you like what you’ve had, you can purchase their sauces home and maybe make your own fried chicken for a quick fix! Sauces option include:
Ganjang (Soy Garlic Sauce)
Gochujang (Korean All Purpose Hot Pepper Sauce)
Yangnyeom (Korean Hot Sauce)
Bulgogi (Korean BBQ Sauce)
These sauces are Halal certified and Vegan friendly. Retailing at RM 12.90 per bottle, it is also available in twin pack at a special price of RM 20.90. Oh, don’t forget to pick a spot out of the many Instagrammable spots in JINJJA Chicken to take a photo! Address:
