Dialogue in the Dark has been a well known social enterprise that raises awareness on the blind and visually impaired. Visitors are led by blind guides, followed by an experience in totally darkness. This creates jobs for the blind and visually impaired. Profits also went to equipping them with all the relevant skills needed to be empowered for attaining self-sufficiency. Today, Dialogue in the Dark has permanent locations in Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan, South Korea, Austria, Italy, the USA, Israel, Australia and Malaysia.

Concert in the Dark by 黑暗心乐会

Dialogue In The Dark Malaysia is managed by DID MY Academy, which is founded by Mr. & Mrs. Stevens Chan (陈锦辉). I recently attended “Concert in the Dark” by 黑暗心乐会 (Beautiful Voices) at Dialogue In The Dark Malaysia, The Weld Kuala Lumpur. 黑暗心乐会 (Beautiful Voices) came all the way from Taiwan for this special performance. Our experiential journey started when we were being led 4-by-4 into a room in total darkness by blind guides. I felt really nervous and a little panic because this is the first time I maneuvered in the dark and the route isn’t straight all the way. This is perfectly normal as we will feel insecure experiencing it for the first time. The auditorium was so dark that I can’t even see my fingers, I didn’t know how far was the distance from my seat to the stage and whether there was anyone sitting beside me.

Throughout the 1.5 hours journey, we sat there and enjoyed beautiful melodies and true stories of the blind and visually impaired performers. In the dark, all our other senses (hearing, touch, smell, perception) will be heightened and we get to experience not only sense of hearing, but also touch and smell. The performance include songs like 叶子, 童话, 新不了情, Careless Whisper and some of their own compositions. The performers exposed us to a wide variety of Taiwan music collection which consists of Taiwan Pop Music, Taiwan Aboriginal Music, and Southern Fujian Music. It really feels different and touching to listen in the dark. Have you listened to a concert in total darkness? It was an entirely new and precious experience for me. “Concert in the Dark” by 黑暗心乐会 (Beautiful Voices) is produced by Jimmy Wang (王俊杰), a visually impaired composer and record producer. He was the first prize winner of the “Taiwan Original Pop Music Competition” for 2 years and received other awards for his talent.
